Undergraduate classes at the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS) São Cristóvão campus begin on 15 March 2027, and its academic year ends on 21 December 2027, according to a university announcement published on 28 October 2026 about the approved calendar. The academic recess runs from 1 January to 14 March, with a further break from 23 to 29 June. These announced dates apply specifically to São Cristóvão and must not automatically be applied to other campuses.
UFS says its undergraduate calendar has returned to alignment with the calendar year. The planning accounts for at least 200 instructional days and for public holidays that differ by municipality. The announcement provides an overview rather than every academic procedure at every campus.
São Cristóvão calendar: main dates for 2027
| When | What the approved calendar provides |
|---|---|
| 1 January to 14 March 2027 | Academic recess at the beginning of the year |
| 15 March 2027 | First-semester classes begin |
| 23 to 29 June 2027 | June academic recess |
| 24 July 2027 | First semester ends |
| 25 July to 15 August 2027 | Period reserved for enrollment procedures |
| 21 December 2027 | Academic year ends |
The university describes 25 July to 15 August as a period reserved for enrollment procedures. This does not mean every student is on vacation throughout that interval. The announcement reviewed does not give a specific first day of classes for the second semester, 2027.2; that date should not be inferred simply from the end of the enrollment period.
What about students at other UFS campuses?
The Undergraduate Studies Office (Prograd) maintains a separate calendar page for each campus. When checked on 29 October 2026, these pages listed calendars for 2026 and earlier years, without detailed 2027 dates on the pages reviewed. The findings were:
| Campus | Status of 2027 dates |
|---|---|
| Aracaju (Health campus) | No 2027 start or end date confirmed on the page reviewed |
| Estância (Innovation campus) | No 2027 start or end date confirmed on the page reviewed |
| Itabaiana | No 2027 start or end date confirmed on the page reviewed |
| Laranjeiras | No 2027 start or end date confirmed on the page reviewed |
| Lagarto | No 2027 start or end date confirmed on the page reviewed |
| Nossa Senhora da Glória (Campus do Sertão) | No 2027 start or end date confirmed on the page reviewed |
Students at Aracaju, Estância, Itabaiana, Laranjeiras, Lagarto and Nossa Senhora da Glória should therefore consult their own campus calendar once it is made available or updated. Local public holidays and course arrangements mean São Cristóvão's schedule cannot be treated as one university-wide calendar.
Course enrollment, admission and the start of classes are different steps
The academic calendar sets teaching periods, recesses and course enrollment procedures. Admission for new students, in contrast, is governed by the rules, deadlines and notices of each selection process. The UFS announcement mentions document checks and verification panels for incoming students, but does not provide an individual call-up or enrollment schedule for every admission route.
An admitted applicant should not interpret the calendar's enrollment window as a universal deadline for accepting a place. Continuing students must also check course registration and adjustment periods in the applicable calendar and guidance from Prograd and their degree program.
How to find the right calendar and what is still missing
The official route is the Prograd calendar index: choose the campus, check the year or academic term shown on the file, and look for corrections. The 28 October announcement supports the São Cristóvão dates above, but the full 2027 calendar was not available on the campus calendar pages actually reviewed for this report.
This review concerns on-campus undergraduate education. Its dates should not be treated as the calendar for graduate programs or the university's Colégio de Aplicação school. Information checked on 29 October 2026; university updates and amendments may follow.
