The Sergipe Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPSE) launched Operation Orange on the morning of Tuesday, October 20, 2026, executing six search-and-seizure warrants at addresses in Aracaju and Laranjeiras. According to the agency, the action is part of an investigation into possible crimes of embezzlement of public funds (peculato) and criminal association, involving three people under investigation. Execution of the warrants does not mean that the targets have been found guilty.
Who is under investigation and where searches took place
The investigation is being conducted by the 1st Public Prosecutor’s Office of Laranjeiras. According to MPSE, those under investigation are a Laranjeiras city council member, a lawyer, and a third person. The agency did not provide the targets’ names or the amount of cash seized in the statement reviewed.
What was seized and what happens next
The Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco) and the Institutional Security Office (GSI) provided operational support in executing the court orders. MPSE reported the seizure of cash and the collection of material and documentary evidence for analysis.
According to the MPSE statement released at 11:25 a.m. on October 20, the collected items will undergo technical analysis and may guide the next stages of the investigative procedure. The statement does not report a criminal charge accepted by a court or any conviction of those involved.
An investigation is not a conviction
At the time this official publication was reviewed, no statement from the defense teams had been independently documented for this article. It would therefore be inappropriate to attribute replies or accounts to the people investigated. The investigation remains ongoing, and criminal liability depends on the relevant legal stages and examination of evidence.
