People living in Sergipe, Brazil, can find pharmacies accredited to the Farmácia Popular program through the official Brazilian Ministry of Health list, updated on October 2, 2026, and bring the required documents to collect covered products. According to a ministry statement published on October 23, participating outlets operate in 58 municipalities in Sergipe and the program provides 41 products free of charge. However, a municipality's inclusion does not mean that every participating pharmacy stocks a particular product.
How to find a Farmácia Popular pharmacy in Sergipe
- Open the Ministry of Health's official list of participating pharmacies and download the establishment spreadsheet dated October 2, 2026.
- Look for records for the state of Sergipe and then your municipality. Check the establishment and its listed address before arranging a visit. This applies to Aracaju and participating municipalities elsewhere in the state.
- Check whether the outlet is still accredited, its opening hours and whether it has the required medicine or supply in the relevant formulation. Whenever possible, contact the pharmacy directly before travelling.
The figure of 58 municipalities describes the geographic coverage reported by the Ministry of Health. It does not mean there is a participating pharmacy in every neighborhood or that every outlet has all 41 products. The nationwide directory is a dated snapshot and may be updated.
Documents required to collect medicines
At a pharmacy displaying the Aqui Tem Farmácia Popular program sign, the ministry requires an official photo ID and CPF (Brazilian individual taxpayer number), or an identity document showing that CPF number, plus a medical prescription that is still valid. Prescriptions issued by Brazil's public health system (SUS) and by private health care providers are both accepted.
Check that the prescription specifies the medicine, strength and formulation you need. An accredited pharmacy does not necessarily provide every prescribed drug under this program. Farmácia Popular operates through participating private pharmacies. Medicines supplied by public primary care units (UBS) and municipal pharmacies are part of other SUS pharmaceutical assistance channels and should be checked separately.
Which products are free?
According to the ministry, all 41 products in the program list are free of charge. The range includes medicines for conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, osteoporosis, high cholesterol, rhinitis, Parkinson's disease and glaucoma, among other covered indications. It also includes supplies such as adult incontinence diapers and menstrual pads, which have their own eligibility rules.
The product list is established nationally. It is not a live inventory for each outlet. Before visiting, compare the prescribed item with the list linked from the official Farmácia Popular portal and check availability with the chosen pharmacy.
Special rules for adult diapers and menstrual pads
Adult diapers for incontinence are available to people aged 60 or older or people with disabilities. In addition to identification, medical documentation confirming the need is required. For people with disabilities, the medical document must state the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) code, according to the ministry's guidance.
Menstrual pads under the Dignidade Menstrual program are available to those meeting that initiative's eligibility rules, who must present identification with CPF and a specific digital or printed authorization valid for 180 days. The authorization can be obtained through Meu SUS Digital. Those who need help can seek assistance at a public primary care unit (UBS) or the social assistance services listed by the Ministry of Health. Free distribution does not waive this authorization step.
Can someone collect medicine for the patient?
Yes, in permitted situations involving bedridden patients or people who cannot attend in person. The representative must provide a valid prescription, identification documents with CPF for both the beneficiary and the person collecting the items, and the evidence of representation required in that case, such as a court decision or a suitable power of attorney. Specific proof of responsibility applies to minors. Check the latest requirements before sending someone else to the pharmacy.
How to avoid a wasted trip and get assistance
- Check the directory's date, the municipality and the pharmacy's address.
- Have the product name, dosage and formulation ready, to check whether it is covered free of charge and in stock at that location.
- Check prescription validity and any special documents needed for diapers, menstrual pads or collection by a representative.
- For questions, information or complaints, contact the SUS Ombudsman's Office by calling 136, the channel identified by the Ministry of Health.
