People shopping at street markets and municipal markets in Aracaju, Sergipe, need to account for exceptional changes from October 22 to 26, 2026, because of the election runoff on Sunday, October 25. According to the municipal urban services company Emsurb, markets normally held on Fridays were moved to Thursday the 22nd, Saturday markets to Friday the 23rd, and Sunday markets to Saturday the 24th. Central and neighborhood municipal market buildings will close on election day.
These changes apply only to Aracaju and street markets normally held on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays. Emsurb said regular operating hours will remain unchanged; the announcement does not provide a new list of specific clock times.
Street market schedule by neighborhood
| Date in 2026 | Markets and locations | Schedule change |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday, Oct. 22 | São José, Suíssa, Castelo Branco, Médici, Sol Nascente, Agamenon Magalhães, Jessé Pinto Freire | Moved forward from Friday |
| Friday, Oct. 23 | Santo Antônio, 18 do Forte, Grageru, Cirurgia, São Carlos, Santa Tereza | Moved forward from Saturday |
| Saturday, Oct. 24 | Bugio, América, Jardim Esperança, Dom Pedro | Moved forward from Sunday |
| Friday, Oct. 23, afternoon | Residencial Costa Nova (Aruana) | Usual day and hours unchanged |
The table separates the operating date from the day each market would normally take place. Markets moved to October 22 are therefore not scheduled for Friday, October 23 under the exceptional timetable announced.
Santa Maria and Costa Nova: two exceptions
The Santa Maria neighborhood street market will not take place this week. The city government said this was requested by the market vendors themselves. It is therefore not among the street markets rescheduled for Saturday, October 24.
The market at Residencial Costa Nova, in the Aruana neighborhood, remains on Friday, October 23, in the afternoon, with its usual day and hours, Emsurb said.
Which municipal markets close Sunday and reopen Monday
On Sunday, October 25, the central markets Thales Ferraz, Antônio Franco and Maria Virgínia Franco, along with the neighborhood municipal markets in Aracaju, will be closed.
The city announced reopening on Monday, October 26, at regular hours, with one exception: Mercado Vereador Milton Santos, in the Augusto Franco residential district, remains closed on Mondays for cleaning across its sections. The notice does not mean every market will open on Monday.
Practical guidance for shoppers and vendors
Before shopping this weekend, check the neighborhood and date in the table, and note that municipal market buildings will not serve customers on Sunday, October 25. Those who normally use Sunday street markets should visit the Saturday, October 24 edition if their location appears in the announcement.
This information is based on the municipal notice published October 22, 2026 and consulted October 23, 2026. It retains customary hours without listing exact times; any later changes should be checked through the official channels of Aracaju City Hall and Emsurb. This is not a schedule for other municipalities in Sergipe.
