The Federal University of Sergipe (UFS) is suspending in-person academic and administrative activities at all its campuses from Friday, October 23, 2026, until 1 p.m. on Monday, October 26. The measure, established by Ordinance No. 1,264/2026, affects students, faculty, administrative staff and people who had planned to receive in-person services at the university. Essential activities may continue at the discretion of the units responsible.

When does the suspension apply, and where?

The suspension applies to every UFS campus, not only the São Cristóvão campus. It begins on October 23, 2026; the ordinance does not specify a starting time on that date. The stated end is 1 p.m. on October 26, 2026, in Sergipe local time (UTC-3).

The ordinance expressly covers in-person academic and administrative activities. It does not, by itself, order a blanket halt to remote activities, nor does it set a university-wide schedule for making up classes or appointments.

Why did UFS adopt the measure?

The university links the decision to the second round of the general elections on October 25, 2026. According to UFS, some of its facilities are being used for election operations, while students and staff may need to travel to the municipalities where they are registered to vote.

Signed on October 13, 2026, Ordinance No. 1,264 states that the measure applies equally to everyone covered, regardless of candidates or political parties.

What may remain open, and what should visitors check?

The ordinance allows essential activities and other functions needed to keep the university operating to continue if the responsible units decide to maintain them. This does not mean that every department will remain open during the suspension.

Anyone who needs in-person assistance should check the relevant unit or department notice before traveling. For classes, assessments, internships and other commitments, students should rely on instructions from their program coordination or relevant unit.

  • Students: check course, program coordination and unit notices for activities scheduled during the period.
  • Staff: confirm with their unit whether essential services or other work will continue.
  • External visitors: ask the department they plan to visit about exceptional service and reopening before traveling.

Will every service resume at exactly 1 p.m. on October 26?

October 26 at 1 p.m. marks the end of the suspension period specified in the ordinance. The document does not guarantee that every service will reopen at that exact time. Individual departments should confirm their own arrangements.

Information checked on October 23, 2026, against the ordinance and the official UFS announcement published on October 14.
