Natural gas in Barra dos Coqueiros and Lagarto: what operates and what is planned

Barra dos Coqueiros is in its testing and interconnection phase, with operations expected by the end of 2026. Lagarto has an industrial CNG supply operation and plans a network expansion in 2027.

On October 21, 2026, Sergipe Gás S/A (Sergas) reported that the Barra dos Coqueiros gas pipeline was undergoing final interconnection and testing, with operations expected to begin by the end of the year. In Lagarto, an industrial supply operation using compressed natural gas (CNG) already exists, while expansion through a backbone distribution network is planned for 2027. Residents, condominium associations and businesses in either municipality should not treat these announcements as proof that a connection is available at every address.

The company reported the construction stages and dates following an interview with its president, Alan Lemos. This status was checked on October 23, 2026, and schedules may still change.

Barra dos Coqueiros: what remains before operations can start?

According to Sergas, the pipeline crossing on the Construtor João Alves Filho Bridge is complete. The local-network interconnection and final tests remain outstanding. The company's own network panel still identifies the Barra dos Coqueiros network as under construction.

A possible November start and the projected deadline of December 2026 are forecasts, not confirmation of an inauguration. Condominium developments, restaurants, bakeries and small industries are identified as potential beneficiaries, but each property's connection depends on the actual infrastructure and the distributor's assessment.

Lagarto: what already exists and what is planned?

Sergas says the municipality has a supply operation using compressed natural gas delivered by truck and received at a decompression station. The Maratá industrial company is identified as the anchor customer. This is different from a citywide gas distribution network available at all addresses.

The company plans to build a backbone network in 2027 to enable service to other commercial and industrial customers. Its October 21 announcement does not list eligible streets or neighborhoods, an exact completion date or a schedule of new residential connections.

How can you check whether a property can receive natural gas?

The practical next step is to contact Sergas with the municipality, neighborhood, street address and intended use, and ask whether an operational network reaches that location, whether connection is feasible, what technical requirements apply and when service might become possible. The utility lists atendimento@sergipegas.com.br, 0800 284 5236 and (79) 3243-8500 as contact channels.

The Sergipe Public Services Regulatory Agency (Agrese), on a page updated February 2, 2026, lists Lagarto among municipalities where natural gas is available. The same regulatory guidance says that the residential distribution policy described at that time did not cover individual homes outside condominiums. Municipality lists and industrial supply therefore do not replace address-specific eligibility confirmation from Sergas.

What has not yet been confirmed?

The documents reviewed do not establish that the new service in Barra dos Coqueiros has been inaugurated, that Lagarto's backbone network is complete, or which premises qualify for connections along those new routes. The 2026 and 2027 dates are company projections that may change. These sources do not support promises of individual cost savings, immediate connections or broad residential coverage.
