The Federal University of Sergipe (UFS) is offering 30 places in its 2027 Letras Libras entrance examination for the morning bachelor's teaching-degree program on its São Cristóvão campus. Applications are submitted online from October 20 to 27, 2026, with a R$ 60 fee, and the exam is scheduled for December 6. Of the 30 places, 22 belong to Group A, for deaf applicants or applicants with hearing disabilities, and eight to Group B, for hearing applicants. The rules are set out in Notice No. 46/2026/PROGRAD/UFS, issued on October 9.
This guide is based on the notice and official university channels consulted on October 23, 2026. Applicants should follow the UFS selection page for later deadlines, results and procedures.
Who may apply and how places are allocated
People who have completed or are completing secondary school may apply. The course is bilingual, using Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) and Portuguese, and prepares graduates to teach Libras. The available places are divided into two admission groups, with statutory affirmative-action reservations applied within each group.
| Group | Applicants specified in the notice | Places |
|---|---|---|
| A | Deaf people or people with hearing disabilities | 22 |
| B | Hearing people, including people with other disabilities | 8 |
| Total | Morning teaching-degree course in São Cristóvão | 30 |
The table below shows the allocation by admission category. AC means open competition. For reserved places, LB refers to gross household income per person no higher than one minimum wage and the required schooling in a public school or eligible rural community school; LI removes the income ceiling but retains the schooling requirement. PPI refers to Black, brown or Indigenous applicants; Q to quilombola applicants; PCD to applicants with disabilities; and EP to the public-school category.
| Category | Group A | Group B |
|---|---|---|
| AC | 8 | 1 |
| LB_PPI | 5 | 1 |
| LB_Q | 1 | 1 |
| LB_PCD | 1 | 1 |
| LB_EP | 1 | 1 |
| LI_PPI | 4 | 1 |
| LI_Q | 0 | 0 |
| LI_PCD | 1 | 1 |
| LI_EP | 1 | 1 |
| Total | 22 | 8 |
To apply for Group A, a candidate must self-declare deafness or a hearing disability, but final recognition depends on assessment by the UFS multidisciplinary committee after the pre-classification stage. The notice provides for reallocating unfilled places, prioritizing eligible Group A candidates before any transfer to Group B. The initial allocation therefore does not replace the detailed quota and reallocation rules.
How to apply and pay the fee
UFS provides documents and service buttons on its dedicated Letras Libras 2027 selection page. Candidates should choose Inscrição (Application), complete the required form, and follow the GRU (payment document) and Confirmação inscrição (Application confirmation) options. The university's news announcement describes the selection but does not replace this operational page.
- Applications: October 20-27, 2026, online only. The notice allows one application per Brazilian taxpayer ID (CPF).
- Fee: R$ 60. After applying, issue the federal collection payment document (GRU) and pay exclusively through Banco do Brasil by the end of banking hours on October 28, 2026. An unpaid scheduled transaction does not constitute proof of payment.
- Fee waiver: requests were accepted October 13-15, 2026, for applicants meeting both the updated CadÚnico registration and low-income requirements. This request period had already ended by October 23; recipients of waivers must still complete the application.
- Corrections: the specific registration-data correction form is scheduled to be available October 20-28. The application confirmation period runs October 22-30.
Payment settlement or a recognized fee waiver is required for an application to become effective. Applicants should keep their receipts and check their status directly in the UFS system rather than relying only on messages.
What the December 6 exam will be like
This admission process uses UFS's own tests, not an Enem score for ranking applicants in this particular examination. The test is scheduled for December 6, 2026, from 9:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., at Cidade Universitária Prof. José Aloísio de Campos, Avenida Marcelo Deda Chagas, no number, Rosa Elze neighborhood, São Cristóvão. The gates close at 9 a.m. UFS recommends arriving one hour early. All times are local to Sergipe (UTC-3).
- Reading and Text Comprehension: 20 multiple-choice questions based on texts in Portuguese and Libras; weight 1.
- General Knowledge: 20 multiple-choice questions covering humanities, culture, logic and the natural sciences; weight 1.
- Essay: an argumentative essay written in Portuguese; weight 2. Grading must take account of the linguistic particularities of deaf applicants who use Portuguese as a second language, while still assessing the required content.
All three assessments are both eliminatory and used for ranking. Under the notice, applicants are disqualified if they score zero on any test or answer fewer than 20% of the combined multiple-choice questions correctly. Final ranking uses a weighted grade average. On exam day, candidates must present an original official photo ID and a legible printed copy of the test location card, available from November 30.
Accessibility and Group A verification
Group A applicants are entitled to tests projected in Libras and support from translators and interpreters. Other accommodations must be requested in the application system from October 20-27, subject to the criteria and medical documents required by the notice. It also provides measures such as enlarged-format papers, adapted rooms and up to 60 additional minutes for the specified groups.
After the December 18 pre-classification list, Group A candidates called to prove eligibility must submit documents between December 21 and 23, 2026, including medical reports and audiometry tests under the notice. The document assessment result is scheduled for January 8, 2027; an in-person evaluation on January 13 is envisaged only when the documents are inconclusive. Self-declaration at the application stage alone does not guarantee a Group A place.
