In Aracaju, the free Cata-treco pickup of unwanted furniture and household appliances can be requested from the Municipal Urban Services Company (Emsurb) by calling (79) 3021-9908 or (79) 3021-9999, the latter also available on WhatsApp, or through City Hall's 1Doc platform. An individual pickup appointment is not the same as a truck's scheduled neighborhood route. Before placing any item outside, confirm with Emsurb when and how it will be collected.
How to request a Cata-treco pickup
- Identify the items you want to dispose of. When submitting your request, provide your neighborhood, street and a contact method to help the service locate the address and respond.
- Call (79) 3021-9908 or (79) 3021-9999, or send a WhatsApp message to the second number. You can also submit a request through Aracaju City Hall's 1Doc Citizen Service portal.
- Specify which materials need collection and ask for confirmation of the service, collection date, pickup location and any instructions for heavy or bulky objects.
- Make the items available only according to the instructions and the confirmed collection date. Submitting a request does not, by itself, mean the truck will arrive immediately.
According to Emsurb's frequently asked questions, its Ombudsman's Office serves the public Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. These are public service hours, not a guaranteed time for the collection truck.
Which materials are covered
The Emsurb service list mainly covers bulky items that are no longer useful, while the City Council also mentions mattresses. Documented examples include:
- Unwanted furniture, including pieces of furniture that can no longer be used.
- Unusable household appliances.
- Mattresses and other bulky unwanted items.
- Mirrors, PVC doors and wooden items listed as miscellaneous bulky objects by Emsurb.
Whether a specific item is accepted, particularly broken components, very heavy pieces or electronic equipment, should be checked when requesting pickup. The materials accepted at municipal drop-off stations form a broader list and do not mean all of them can be handed to the Cata-treco truck.
Appointment or scheduled neighborhood visit: what is the difference?
With an appointment, residents request pickup through an official channel and must agree on the collection arrangements with the service. A scheduled neighborhood visit, on the other hand, follows a route announced for specific days and neighborhoods. Finding your neighborhood in an old announcement therefore does not prove that the truck will visit your street now.
For example, the municipal schedule for Thursday, October 22, 2026, included Cata-treco in the 17 de Março neighborhood. That reference applied to that day only; it is not a permanent calendar and does not authorize using the same route in another week.
What to do with other types of waste
Construction debris, tree trimmings, tires, disposable batteries, rechargeable batteries and ordinary household garbage should not be assumed to qualify for Cata-treco pickup. Emsurb describes other disposal options, including drop-off stations, regular collection and the separate Cata-Pneu tire service. Before transporting materials or leaving them on a public street, confirm which service accepts them and under what conditions.
When to put items out and how to report a missed pickup
In announcements of previous routes, City Hall instructed residents in the covered areas to put items outside their homes on the day of the operation. That instruction does not replace confirmation of the date and location of an individually requested pickup. The sources reviewed do not establish a single guaranteed waiting time for all appointments or a fixed route valid every week.
If an agreed pickup does not occur, Emsurb advises residents to submit a report through 1Doc or contact the Ombudsman's Office using the same telephone numbers. This is a municipal service for Aracaju and does not automatically apply to neighboring municipalities.
Information checked on October 25, 2026. Phone numbers, operating rules and routes may change; confirm the arrangements directly with Emsurb before putting items out.
