Low-income households served by Iguá Sergipe may qualify for the Social Water and Sewer Tariff, which provides a 50% discount on the water supply and sewerage tariffs applicable to the first 15 cubic meters (m³) consumed each month. It applies to eligible residential connections in municipalities and localities covered by the concession. Enrollment may be automatic, using CadÚnico records, or requested directly from the company. Households that cannot yet see the benefit on their bill should check their account registration number, household records and the documents needed for an official request.
Who qualifies for the Social Tariff?
Federal Law No. 14,898/2024 and Agrese Ordinance No. 15/2026 require monthly household income per person of no more than half the minimum wage, together with at least one of the following conditions:
- The household is registered as low income in the federal Single Registry for Social Programs (CadÚnico).
- The household includes a person with a disability or someone aged 65 or over who receives the Continuous Cash Benefit (BPC), under the conditions set by social assistance legislation.
Sergipe's ordinance considers CadÚnico and BPC records updated within the preceding two years. Under federal law, BPC and Bolsa Família payments are excluded when calculating household income per person for this benefit. The service connection must be linked to the household representative or another family member recorded in CadÚnico. Iguá also states that the preferential tariff applies to just one residential connection per family. Illegal or irregular connections must be regularized before a household can be classified as eligible.
Does the discount halve the entire bill?
Not necessarily. The 50% reduction applies to the water and sewerage tariff charged for the first 15 m³ of monthly consumption. If consumption exceeds that threshold, the excess may be billed at the regular tariff. Thus, the rule does not automatically reduce every final bill by half: the total also depends on consumption, billed services and other applicable charges.
How to apply to Iguá Sergipe, step by step
- Check the service area and account number. Iguá reports operations in 74 of Sergipe's 75 municipalities. Capela is not part of its concession, while coverage of villages depends on the contract. Confirm that Iguá issues the bill for the property, and note the registration number and address.
- Check household records. Verify that CadÚnico is up to date, or prepare proof of BPC receipt, whichever applies. If household and service-connection records do not match, ask how they can be corrected.
- Prepare documents. Federal law specifies the household representative's official identification and proof of CadÚnico registration, a BPC card, or a benefit statement or certificate. Iguá's FAQ additionally mentions a taxpayer identification number (CPF) and proof of residence. If extra documents are demanded for classification, request the legal grounds: Article 5, paragraph 1, of federal law restricts which documents may be required for this purpose.
- Submit the request. The company provides an application option through Digi Iguá, assistance on 0800 400 4482 (telephone and WhatsApp), and in-person service locations. First-time Digi Iguá registration requires a CPF and the service account number. For service at CEAC centers, Iguá's location list says an appointment must be booked through the CEAC system.
- Track the outcome. Keep the case or protocol number and check subsequent bills. Iguá's FAQ states that the process of reviewing the request and granting the benefit can take up to 15 business days.
Office locations and opening hours may change. Check the company's current list of service points or confirm the details on 0800 400 4482 before traveling.
How to check whether your bill includes the discount
Iguá's customer manual identifies a category or tariff-type field on the bill, together with the account number, billing month, consumption volume and itemized charges. Look for a residential social tariff category or equivalent indication, and examine the rate charged. If anything is unclear, ask Iguá to confirm the tariff classification and explain the bill calculation, giving the account number and billing month. Being enrolled in CadÚnico alone does not prove that a particular bill already received the reduction.
Automatic enrollment and record updates
Agrese established automatic enrollment based on matched administrative records, while preserving direct applications. Ordinance No. 19/2026, dated March 26, authorized 51,567 additional enrollments. Combined with the 32,000 previously provided for, the ordinance stated a total of 83,567 families under the concession at that stage. It also required registration corrections for a separate group. These are figures from regulatory decisions made in March 2026, not a verified October count of households whose bills actually reflect the discount.
Eligible households not yet shown as beneficiaries do not have to rely solely on automatic record matching. They may ask Iguá to check their case and apply the appropriate classification.
What if you have arrears or your request is refused?
Iguá's FAQ states that customers must have no outstanding debt when applying for the Social Tariff. However, that condition is not among the eligibility requirements listed in Federal Law No. 14,898/2024 or Agrese Ordinance No. 15/2026. There is therefore a difference between the company's published administrative guidance and the express criteria in those instruments. If an application is rejected because of arrears or documents, ask for a case number and written grounds, request a review from the concessionaire and, if necessary, refer the matter to Agrese, the state regulator. A verbal refusal should not be regarded as a final determination of entitlement.
